Safe and Strong Online

Image
Continuing on from our amazing lesson with Mrs Lee in the Exploration Station, we have been working on our projects to share our knowledge on how to be safe and strong online. It is so important that we are aware of the dangers that could happen and what we can do if we don't feel safe. We really love coming into the Exploration Station where we can create games online with Scratch, film videos with our friends and make wonderful models and game boards. Rebecca and Danielle have already created and completed a video showing what they know about being safe and strong online. Check it out below. And here are some action shots with projects in the making.

Mastering Sketching

Image
As part of our inquiry topic Turangawaewae, we are going to be creating pieces of art that represent ourselves. We will sketch the outline of our heads and shoulders, then fill the inside of our profile with pictures and words of things that are important to us and make us who we are, finally we are going to add colour in the form of dye. It will look fantastic. Today we watched an amazing tutorial on how to sketch an eye and then practiced some of the techniques that we saw. This will help us when we start to sketch the outlines of our heads and shoulders and when we sketch all of the wonderful things inside. What do you think of our eyes?

Exploration Station

Today room 6 had their first session with Mrs Lee in the Exploration Station (room 12). We had an amazing time beginning to learn about how to keep ourselves safe and strong online and how to be helpful and smart. Our first activity to help get us thinking about online safety was to write down two facts about ourselves and then place them under safe to share online or not safe to share online. We had some interesting discussions about some of the items we shared. Mrs Lee has also made an incredible website to help teach us about digital citizenship called Shine Online. Check it out here . AND if you ever need help or advice outside of school on how to stay safe and strong online you can always check out Netsafe NZ . This website has a lot of useful information to help keep families and students safe online.

Summer Holiday Moment in Time

Image
This week we have been working very hard to write descriptive pieces of writing about one thing we did in the summer holidays. Our aim was to capture 30 seconds in the most detail that we possibly could by including nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, similes, alliteration and onomatopoeia. Feel free to come in to room 6 and read our wonderful writing! Here are some of the completed pieces, aren't they great!

Chinese Lion Dance

A huge thank you to the AMAZING E-Pacs Lion & Dance Group for coming to Sunnyhills to show and teach us about the Chinese Lion Dance. We had so much fun listening to you and now know so much more about Chinese New Year. I really loved when Tracey the lion dancer put on the costume and showed us how to do some of the lion dance steps. Which part did you like? Please check out the videos below:

Maths Talks

Image
We have been discussing all of the different ways we can solve 32-19. It was great to see so many strategies and then decide which ones would be the most efficient and then which ones we preferred to use. Check out our working below and please comment which strategy you would use :)

Music Assembly

On Thursday 7th February, we had Jordan and Shaun come to school to demonstrate to the Kauri Whanau some of the instruments that they offer lessons on. The lessons will happen before and after school during the term. All of the students at the assembly were enraptured! Here are a few clips of the demonstration. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do! Please comment which instrument you would love to learn to play.

The G.E.M.S Superheroes

Image
Today in Room Six, we talked about the Sunnyhills G.E.M.S. We had some great discussions and thought about what they mean to us as learners and how we can use them in our everyday lives. We then made G.E.M.S superheroes. Our superheroes and their super powers represent different G.E.M.S! Pop by our window that faces the koru courtyard and check our awesome superheroes out!

Bring On Term One!

Image
Hello new room 6 students. I hope you have all had amazing, adventurous, interesting, exciting and relaxing holidays and are now ready and excited to start term one (I know I am). I can't wait to hear what you have all been up to over the break, I hope you can all bring 2-3 memories to share with the class. On Friday the teachers and staff of Sunnyhills went out on the Ted Ashby from the Maritime Museum. It was a wonderful day. Check out the pictures below.

Where in the world do our visitors come from?
