The Bears reading group have been working really hard to extend their skimming and scanning skills when reading. This week, we read the story called "Police Work" which is all about different people applying to be an undercover police person. We skimmed and scanned the applications to see what the important details were in each application. We then used the important details to help us make our own police job applications. This week we have started looking at 2D shapes. We have been learning new shapes, discussing the angles within them and using some geometrical language to talk about them. Then, to apply our new knowledge, we have started to create shape comics! Check out how we are going.

On Monday, Room 6 used Math Talk Moves to get us thinking about all of the different strategies we know to solve Division. Miss Stuhlmann wrote 80/4 on the whiteboard and then gave us time to think about all the different ways we could solve the problem. When then took turns to share our strategies to the class and have a discussion about which ones we use the most and which ones we would like to learn. We came up with: - Equal sharing using skip counting - Halving and then halving again - Splitting factors - Reversibility (using multiplication instead) - Place Value - Short division Miss Stuhlmann also introduced us to Equal halving. Come and ask one of the room 6 students to explain how to use these strategies, we love to share our knowledge.

In room 6 for the last four weeks we have been using an amazing kit to help us develop our knowledge about Statistics and Measurement. We have researched what it takes to create a world record, created our own records and now we are testing and challenging them. While we are testing our records we are using lots of mathematical language, measuring things using the metric system, converting measurements, collecting data, organising data, analysing data and soon we will be presenting and displaying data. We are having so much fun working with friends and using our Sunnyhills GEMS to help us create our world records. Check out some of the photos from today!                

Continuing on from our amazing lesson with Mrs Lee in the Exploration Station, we have been working on our projects to share our knowledge on how to be safe and strong online. It is so important that we are aware of the dangers that could happen and what we can do if we don't feel safe. We really love coming into the Exploration Station where we can create games online with Scratch, film videos with our friends and make wonderful models and game boards. Rebecca and Danielle have already created and completed a video showing what they know about being safe and strong online. Check it out below. As part of our inquiry topic Turangawaewae, we are going to be creating pieces of art that represent ourselves. We will sketch the outline of our heads and shoulders, then fill the inside of our profile with pictures and words of things that are important to us and make us who we are, finally we are going to add colour in the form of dye. It will look fantastic. Today we watched an amazing tutorial on how to sketch an eye and then practiced some of the techniques that we saw. This will help us when we start to sketch the outlines of our heads and shoulders and when we sketch all of the wonderful things inside. What do you think of our eyes?
